James Schweigert

James Schweigert, 78, of East Greenbush, passed away on March 8, 2026, at St. Peter’s Hospice.

Born in Albany, New York, to the late Francis and Eleanor (DeWitt) Schweigert, Jim served his country as a sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War era. He took great pride in his duty of escorting fallen soldiers home for repatriation.

After his military service, Jim worked as an HVAC technician for Carpinello and Long Heating before spending many years at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery until his retirement. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast who enjoyed riding the local roads, stopping at Stewarts for coffee and scratch-off tickets, sharing stories with friends, and offering his help to anyone who needed a hand with a project.

Jim was predeceased by his parents and many close friends. He is survived by his longtime companion, Maradean Hiller, and her family; his loving dog, Poppy; his sister-in-law, Aleta Schweigert; his brother, Alan Schweigert; his best friend, Billy Warburton; and the members of his daily Stewarts coffee club, Jack and Dave.
