James Schwartz ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Craig Funeral Home on Mar. 16, 2026.James (Jim) Frederick Schwartz, a longtime resident of St. Augustine, peacefully passed away on March 12, 2026, and went to be with his Lord.Jim was born February 11, 1944, in Erie, Pennsylvania, to Frank and Frances Schwartz. He attended parochial schools and later graduated from Gannon College with a Bachelor of Science degree in History. Following graduation, he was commissioned in the U.S. Army Infantry.In 1966, Jim married Kathleen T. Timmons, his devoted wife and partner of nearly 60 years. Kathleen accompanied him during his military service, and together they later made their home in Florida. Jim began his career in restaurant management before joining John Hancock as an insurance agent. He retired in 2006. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who deeply cherished his family.He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Schwartz; his children, James (Lynn) Schwartz and Teressa (Ted) Tribble; his son-in-law, Matthew Burkholder; his brother, David (Mary) Schwartz, and his Aunt Marilyn Seifert. He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren-Paul (Ale) Schwartz, Joseph Schwartz, Samuel Schwartz, Matthew (Tori) Burkholder, Adam (Chelsea) Burkholder, Jacob (Emily) Burkholder, Sarah Jackson, and Jordan Jackson-and four great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Silas Burkholder, Brooks Burkholder, and Nolan Burkholder.He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Gretchen (David) Jackson, who passed away in February 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer.A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church at 9:00 a.m. on March 28, 2026, with a reception to follow in the church hall. Interment will take place at a later date at St. Anastasia Crematorium, St. Augustine Beach.In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O.
