James Rentfrow

James Rentfrow, 76, of Farina, formerly of Effingham, passed away on March 3, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born on August 4, 1949, in Effingham to Norman and Bernice (Williams) Rentfrow, he married Catherine Fields on May 23, 1998. Together they spent 27 loving years blending their families into one.

He is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Rentfrow and Sara Hunley (fiancé Michael Mitchell); sons, Jason Fields, Corey Fields (fiancée Alayna), and Josh Hunley; seven grandchildren, Weston, Wyatt, Wayde, Logan, Tucker, Tatem, and Tully; sisters, Linda Goldstein and husband Ralph, Sandy Schwerman and husband Darrell, and Shelia Rentfrow; sister-in-law, Shirley Quick; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Bernice Rentfrow; brother-in-law, Cecil Quick; nephew, Ken Schwerman; and his wife, Catherine Rentfrow, who joined him in death on March 7, 2026.

A man of deep faith, James was a devoted member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Farina and, with Catherine, an active participant in Campers on a Mission, sharing their love for Jesus through service and fellowship. He served six years in the Illinois National Guard, worked as a dairy farmer, and found quiet pleasure in woodworking, gardening, and baking holiday treats with his grandsons and siblings. Above all, his greatest joy was time spent with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren.
