James Ralph Watson

James Ralph Watson, age 85, of U.S. 19-E South in Spruce Pine, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026.

Born on March 27, 1940, in Avery County, he was the son of the late Ray and Vaudie Dillinger Watson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Anna Mae and Lena, and his brother, Buddy. A longtime member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, James retired from Coates-American after many years of service.

He was a devoted husband, father, and father-in-law who cherished his family above all else. James found great joy in traveling to visit loved ones, spending time outdoors fishing and camping, and browsing yard sales and equipment auctions. He especially treasured the meals prepared by his daughter-in-law, Aly.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Watson, and his son, Bryan Bennett, and wife, Aly.
