James Dennis ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Gowen-Smith Chapel on Mar. 17, 2026.Mr. James Patrick Dennis, age 62, went to be with his Heavenly Father March 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 19, 1963, in Shelbyville, TN to the late Halbert Floyd and Mary Elizabeth Dennis. Patrick moved with his family to Nashville in 1968 where he attended special education classes in the Nashville school system. When his father retired as a professor from Vanderbilt university in 1995 he then he moved with his parents to Chattanooga where he lived for 30 years.The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 p.m. Friday, March 20th at Gowen-Smith Chapel. A graveside service will follow at Willow Mount Cemetery in Shelbyville, TN where he will be laid to rest next to his parents.Patrick delighted everyone he met. He had a smile that lifted the heart of everyone. Patrick loved his family, his dog pippin, and trains. Every challenge, he faced with courage, determination and good humor; his kindness and gentleness remain an example to all those he left behind.Patrick is survived by his sister, Tricia Dennis of Ooltewah, TN; brother-in-law, Michael (Mohamed) Mustafa of Ooltewah, TN; nieces, Dr. Katherine Mustafa and husband Joseph Butler of Roanoke, VA; Sarah Dennis and Nick Manners of Nolensville, TN; and Bailey Dennis of Nashville, TN; and brother, John Michael and Julie Seitzman Dennis of Brentwood, TN.Gowen-Smith Chapel is honored to be serving the family of James Patrick Dennis.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
