James Patrick Collins
October 30, 1939— March 9, 2026
South Windsor, CT
James Patrick Collins, 86, of South Windsor, beloved husband of the late Pamela Ann (Coleman) Collins, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family on March 9, 2026.
Born on October 30, 1939, at Brookfield House in Abbey, Loughrea, County Galway, Ireland, he was the son of William and Mary Teresa (Murray) Collins. A 1957 graduate of St. Bridget’s School in Portumna, County Galway, James later earned an associate’s degree in 1962 from Willesden Technical College in London, England. It was in London that he met the love of his life, Pamela Coleman, at a dance at The Galtymore. They married and immigrated to the United States in 1965, building a life together rooted in family, perseverance, and resilience.
A skilled pipefitter and welder, James was a proud member of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters, Steamfitters Local 777 of Connecticut. His work took him across the country, and he approached every job with dedication and quiet pride. Deeply connected to his Irish heritage, Ireland remained “home” to him throughout his life. He returned often to visit family and friends, enjoyed listening to Irish music, and followed hurling with great enthusiasm. An early riser with a sharp wit and remarkable memory, he loved engaging in political discussion and could often recall answers while watching Jeopardy.
Above all, James cherished his family. He took immense pride in his children and grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them. He is survived by his three children, Carolyn Collins and her husband John Belsen of South Windsor, Gary Collins of Groton, and James Collins and his wife Alison of Newington; his four beloved grandchildren, Sean Holmes and Kevin Holmes of South Windsor, and Aidan Collins and Madison Collins of Newington; his brothers, Michael Collins of Hawley, Pennsylvania, and Liam Collins and his wife Beatrice of Galway, Ireland; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of over 62 years, Pamela Ann Collins; his sister June and her husband Pat Cahalin of London, England; and his sister-in-law Maura Collins of Hawley, Pennsylvania. James will be laid to rest beside Pamela, reunited with the love of his life.
