December 8, 1943— March 13, 2026
Ellettsville, IN
James Omer Reinhart, 82, of Ellettsville, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026. Born in Evansville on December 8, 1943, to Omer and Mary Ruth Reinhart, Jim grew up working in his family’s restaurant, the “Dubl R,” where he developed a strong work ethic and a lifelong gift for storytelling. He graduated from Reitz Memorial High School in 1961 and earned a degree in Chemistry from the University of Evansville in 1965.
In 1966, Jim married Jane Marie, the love of his life, after noticing her beautiful eyes and warm smile while cruising with friends. Their marriage of 59 years was filled with love, family, travel, and deep companionship until her passing in October 2025. A master carpenter, Jim crafted the crucifix at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, where he remained a faithful member, serving as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and founding member of the church’s Breakfast Club. He was also active in the Jaycees.
Jim was a devoted father who cheered enthusiastically at his son Adam’s Little League games and a cherished grandfather known as Pop-pop, Grandpa, or Potsie. He created lasting memories with his grandchildren through lawn mower rides, woodworking projects, and playful moments. He loved classic country music, especially Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, remained a loyal Indiana University basketball and football fan, and valued his many friendships. An avid traveler, he visited Hawaii, Italy, Washington, D.C., and made a cherished pilgrimage to the Holy Land with Jane and their church group.
Jim is survived by his children, Adam (Stacey) Reinhart, Michele (Bob) Stanton, and Stephanie (John) Mitchell; eight grandchildren, Gary (Niki), Kacey (Philip), Riley (Jake), Lauren, Lillian, Kendall, Peyton, and Micah; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Jett. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Marie Reinhart; his parents, Omer and Mary Ruth Reinhart; and his nephews, Matt Reinhart and Mark Wagner.
Jim built a life rich in faith, craftsmanship, laughter, and love. The stories he told and the warmth he shared will remain with his family and friends forever.
