James served in the United States Navy from 1971 until his honorable discharge in 1975. He enjoyed fishing in exclusive spots around the state. James was intricate, marked by challenges that shaped his character. He often boasted about his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a highly skilled certified welder and enjoyed construction projects. He was an avid reader, dreamer and had a passion for learning new things.James is survived by longtime girlfriend, Lori Edgar; 3 children, Jennifer (Eric) Stewart, Ryan (Jessica) Halas, Sean (Deja) Halas; daughter-in-law, Deborah Dohany Halas-Wranosky; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 3 siblings; Maryann (Paul) Gallas, Donald Halas, Paul (Janet) Halas; several nieces and nephews.James was preceded in death by a son, Michael Halas; 2 siblings, Christine Halas and Leonard Halas.Cremation arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home. A celebration of James' life will take place on Friday, May 1, 2026, starting at 11 am at the Goodells Park Visitors Center 8254 County Park Drive. Goodells Mi 48027. According to his wishes, his cremated remains will be buried at sea, with the United States Navy.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
