January 25, 1943— March 7, 2026
Colorado Springs, CO
James Michael FitzPatrick, age 83, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away unexpectedly on March 7, 2026, while living with his caring son and daughter-in-law.
Born in New York and raised in Richland, Washington, to James J. FitzPatrick and Katherine (Smith) FitzPatrick, Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a civil engineer for 21 years, achieving the rank of Chief Master Sergeant at a remarkably young age. After his military career, he continued his commitment to public service as Director of Public Works for the City of Idaho Springs, Colorado, and later for the City of North Las Vegas, Nevada. He then transitioned into the funeral profession, serving as a funeral director with Palm Mortuary in Las Vegas.
Jim found great pleasure in life’s simple joys. He loved traveling, barbecuing with family and friends, relaxing in the hot tub, and trying his luck at gambling. A devoted fan of the Denver Broncos and NASCAR, he was known for his warm and genuine interest in others, often greeting both friends and strangers with his friendly phrase, “How we doin’?” A bit of a Casanova in his younger years, he was blessed with two great loves: 19 wonderful years with his first wife, Iris Carter, and 41 loving years with Ruby Hawkins, who passed in 2022.
Jim is survived by his sister, Kathleen FitzPatrick; his children, Michael (Kim) FitzPatrick, Christina FitzPatrick, and Martin “Marty” (Cheryl) FitzPatrick; his stepdaughter, Pam McLeod; and his cherished grandchildren, Sarah, Jacob, Ben, Annaliese, Christian, and Logan. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
