James Luther Griswold

James Luther Griswold, known to all as Jim, passed away peacefully at his home in Kewadin on March 10, 2026, at the age of 94.

Born on November 23, 1931, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Arthur and Catherine (Stein) Griswold, Jim graduated from Midland High School in 1950. He served four years in the Navy, stationed at Midway Island, before attending Michigan Technological University, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering in 1957. For more than four decades, he owned and operated Griswold Machine and Engineering in Union City, Michigan.

In 1969, Jim married Pat Smith, and the two shared 56 devoted years together. He is survived by his wife Pat, his sister Marge O'Malley, his stepson Jeff Peterson, three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Susan Healy, and his stepson Kirk Peterson.

Jim cherished his home and took great joy in entertaining family and friends. A gifted storyteller and skilled card player, he and Pat spent many winters in Scottsdale, Arizona, and enjoyed numerous trips to Las Vegas. He will be remembered for his warmth, his love of good company, and the lasting stories he shared. A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
