James Morrison ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Mar. 15, 2026.James Louis Morrison (75) of Southfield, Michigan passed away peacefully on the 13th of March, 2026 surrounded and held by his family. Jim's life began on March 22nd, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan to James Lewis Morrison and Lorraine Currier. He graduated from Cass Tech High School and almost graduated from Lawrence Tech University with a finance degree, leaving one credit short to prove a point. He believed that everyone had the capacity for great success so long as they worked hard and kept a positive attitude. He loved learning, and knowing the how's and why's of the natural and mechanical world. He spent much of his childhood taking things apart and putting them back together again, often remarking to his family about having "the best childhood ever", and "the greatest parents". He had a pure nature and a child-like sense of wonder about things that stayed with him for life. He inspired others to think outside the box, and to never be afraid of asking questions. He was known for his humility and ability to see the world through rose colored glasses which he never seemed to take off even in the most trying times. His playfulness, candor and inability to take life too seriously made him a magnet for opportunity. Some of his many jobs included: robotics technician, entrepreneur, private helicopter pilot, landlord, day trader, and more. His favorite role of all was as father and husband. He was a proud provider and relished in his career as "Dad". He was a passionate hockey player, creating the Cranbrook Hockey League in Bloomfield Hills., which is still carried on today. He never missed a chance to tell his wife how much he loved her, or to invent a new game with his kids, who also said they had "the best childhood ever". He lived life brilliantly, with joy- and gave his family comfort in knowing that he wasn't scared, but excited, for the next big adventure.Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents Lorraine and James Sr, and siblings Paul, Roy, and Willie (Cathy). He is survived by his beautiful wife Linda, his three children, Derik, Ellen, and Claire, grandchildren Marley Absher and Adria Watson, and siblings Tom Morrison (Jessica), Susan Najar (Peter), Nina Jaques (Bob), Alice Lillie (Gerard), John Morrison (Heidi), Mary Morrison (James), and Katie Morrison.A celebration of his life will be held on March 19th from 2-7 pm at Sawyer Fuller Funeral Home in Berkley, Michigan, followed by a dinner reception at O'Mara's Restaurant in Berkley. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
