James Lilly ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Kerr Brothers Funeral Home - Harrodsburg Road on Mar. 3, 2026.Mr. James Logan Lilly Jr. (Jimmy), 77, of Versailles, a devoted husband, veteran, and man of faith, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, KY with his devoted wife ever at his side.James was born on March 8, 1948, in Versailles, Kentucky, to the late James Logan Lilly Sr. and Minnie Jo (Holly) Lilly. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings: Steward Lilly, Alvin Lilly and his sister Valarie Burrus.James graduated from Woodford County High School in 1966 and soon after enlisted in the United States Army, where he served honorably for 17.5 years with two tours in Vietnam, rising to the rank of Sergeant. James was proudly decorated with: Medal Badges Awards, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, W/60 Device, Vietnam Service Metal, W/6 Bronze Service Stars (2), Army Good Conduct Medal W/5th Award, Vietnam Cross of 'Gallantry W/Palm, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Badge (Rifle M-16), Marksmanship Badge (M-14), National Defense Service Medal, 2 G/S Bars.Following his military service, Jimmy attended Nazarene Bible College, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Christian Education. His deep love for children led him to teach, tutor, and mentor young people at a faith-based school. He later worked for the United States Postal Service until his retirement.James is survived by his devoted wife, Valeria Katina Lilly; his three stepchildren, Pamela (Jeff) Seed, Renee Lewis, and Andrew Smith; his special niece, Vataya Robinson; seven brothers, Vincent Lilly Robert (Monica) Lilly, David Lilly, Stephon Lilly, Dwight (Sandra) Lilly, Nicholas Lilly, and Roger (Carolyn) Lilly; two sisters, Verna (Ramon) Smith and Vanessa Lilly; first cousins Jose Middleton, Richard Middleton, Tim Middleton, Therese Middleton, Miriam Harris, Glen Wilson, Tony Wilson, Randall Wilson, Rodney Wilson; Danita Kirtley, and Richard Kirtley Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.Jimmy will be remembered as a man of quiet strength, unwavering faith, and deep love for his family and community. His legacy of service to his country, his faith, and the younger generations will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:30 pm Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at the Kerr Brothers – Harrodsburg Road. Visitation will be held from 10:30 -12:30 Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
