James Leon Gourd, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on March 9, 2026, in Skiatook, Oklahoma, at the age of 83. Born on May 21, 1942, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, he grew up in Tulsa and graduated from Central High School in 1960.

He served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1966. After his military service, James built a career in upholstery, working for many years at Oklahoma Upholstery, where his skilled craftsmanship and commitment to quality earned the respect of many.

On August 6, 1975, he married Minnie Lou Root in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. The couple made their home in Tulsa before moving to Skiatook in 2009. James found great joy in golfing, bowling, fishing, and traveling with those he loved, pursuits that reflected his zest for life and appreciation for the outdoors.

He is survived by his daughter, Dana Gourd-Gillean and her husband, Jeremy Burnes; his granddaughter, Ashley Glover and her husband, Justin; and his great-grandchildren, Jayzen, Jayley, and Jaynik. He is also survived by his brother, Eddie Gourd and his wife, Glenda, along with several nieces, nephews, and many dear relatives and friends. James was preceded in death by his parents, Tandy Gourd and Emma Lee (Downing) Gourd, his wife, Minnie Lou (Root) Gourd, and his siblings Henry, Judy, Tandy Jr., Johnny, Louise, Mike, and Eugene, as well as his beloved Aunt Anna Bell.

He will be remembered for his kind spirit, strong work ethic, and the deep love he shared with his family and friends.
