James Lee Pohlman
December 2, 1943— March 9, 2026
Layton, UT
James Lee Pohlman, known to many as Jim, was born on December 2, 1943, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and passed away at the age of 82. A lifelong resident of Utah, he served a two-year mission in Germany for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before being drafted into the Army’s 196th Infantry Brigade, where he served two years in Vietnam. He later built a successful career as a computer programmer with the Department of Defense before retiring. He earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Utah.
Jim was a man of deep faith, intellectual curiosity, and quiet devotion. He was an avid sports enthusiast, a dedicated journal writer, and a committed family historian. Above all, he cherished his role as a devoted ministering servant in his church and found his greatest joy in his family. On November 21, 1969, he was married and sealed to his sweetheart, Marsha Ann Thomas, in the Salt Lake City Temple. He is survived by his wife, Marsha; his siblings, Steve (Susan) and Dorothy Marsh (Ralph); his children, Bruce, Nathan (Rodgen), Julie Weir (Mike), and Mark (Kellie); 14 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. The love and unity he fostered within his family reflected the kindness and charity that defined his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hyrum and Elva Pohlman, and his siblings, Arlene Hammond, Carol Harkness, and Hyrum Jr.
