James Lawrence "Jay" Sweeney

James "Jay" L. Sweeney, of Dennisport, formerly of Hanson and North Quincy, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, at the age of 78, with his daughter by his side.

Born and raised in North Quincy, Jay graduated from North Quincy High School. He began his working life as a bartender at the family-owned Sweeney's Sagamore Grille before building a long career as an elevator technician, retiring in 1994.

Jay’s greatest passion was cars. He served as president of the Cape Cod Corvette Club for many years and cherished driving with no particular destination, loud rock music filling the air. He also found joy in golfing, gardening, and the occasional fireworks display.

Jay was the beloved father of Briana (Sweeney) Lucas and her husband, Dave Lucas, of Hanson, and a devoted Poppi to his grandchildren, Emerson, Natalie, and Joey. He was the brother of the late Carol Higgins and her husband Jim of Hanover, Russ Sweeney and his wife Jean of Weymouth, and Joan Myatt and her husband Jack of Hingham. He is also survived by his longtime girlfriend, Janet DePesa of Dennisport, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
