James Larry Jenkins
Warrenton, VA
James Larry Jenkins, age 73, of Warrenton, Virginia, passed unexpectedly on March 5, 2026 at Fauquier Hospital. Born on February 27, 1953 in Warrenton, he was the son of the late James and Mildred Jenkins.
Larry was a man whose work left more than color on walls; it left warmth in the lives of those around him. As the owner of Jenkins Painting, he transformed houses into homes and buildings into places of pride for families and businesses throughout the community. His career began in 1971 when he started working alongside his father, and what began as a trade grew into a lifelong passion and a true family legacy. He worked proudly with all three of his brothers and later welcomed his son and daughter into the business, teaching them the value of dedication, craftsmanship, and perseverance.
Before painting defined his days, Larry was a standout athlete at Culpeper High School, excelling in football, baseball, and basketball. That same determination and team spirit carried into adulthood, where he coached little league football, inspiring young athletes and leading teams to championship games. In 1978 he met Mary, who became the love of his life. They married in 1987 and shared 39 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and companionship. Together they raised a daughter and a son.
Larry’s passions also included the thrill of the racetrack, which began in 1980 when he purchased his first racehorse. He loved watching his horses compete at Charles Town Races and Slots. Yet family remained at the heart of his world. He cherished yearly beach trips, cheering for WVU games, simple evenings at home with the dogs, and especially the joy of spending time with his grandson, who proudly carried his name. Through his work, his love of sports, and above all his devotion to family, Larry built a legacy that will endure in the lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary Leach Jenkins; two children, Jamie Jenkins (David) and James Jenkins (Lauren), both of Warrenton, VA; three brothers, Moe Jenkins (Susie) of Fredericksburg, VA, Mike Jenkins (Liz) and David Jenkins (Brenda), both of Culpeper, VA; sister-in-law, Linda Leach of Warrenton; grandson, James William Jenkins of Warrenton; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
