Born at home in Dyersburg, Tennessee, in 1941, James later moved with his parents and sister to Jackson, Michigan, where they sought new opportunities and built a life grounded in hard work, resilience, and close family bonds.James graduated from Jackson High School in 1961. A talented athlete, he earned a spot on the varsity baseball team as a ninth grader and also played football. Growing up in rural Tennessee and excelling in sports helped shape the discipline, determination, and quiet strength that would define him throughout his life.After high school, James enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Altus, Oklahoma, as part of the 11th Combat Defense Squad-known as the Tough Tigers. During his service, he met his first wife, Ann Fitzpatrick, with whom he shared 20 years of marriage. Later in life, he met Kay Ellen Earp, and together they built more than 30 years of marriage filled with love, companionship, and travel both within the United States and abroad.James retired from General Motors in 1993 after 31 years and was a universal blood donor donating over 13 gallons of blood in his lifetime.James is preceded in death by his wife, Kay Ellen Adcock; his parents, Junior and Annie Sue Owsley; his sister, Betty Radcliff and a grandson Andrew Garcia.He is survived by his children Judy (Jeff) Pollard, Angela (Raymond) Lopez, Warren (Jeanne) Earp, Doug (Frieda) Earp, William (Maria) Earp, and Janice (Jim) Lawrence; sixteen grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward his legacy of strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to family.A celebration of life will be held at Ironwood Links Golf Course, 742 Eifert Rd., Mason, Michigan, on Sunday, May 17th, from 1:00–4:00 p.m. All family and friends are welcome.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
