James K. Russo

1952 — 2026

Oscoda, MI

James K. Russo, age 74, of Oscoda, Michigan, passed away on March 10, 2026, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit after a courageous 19-month battle with cancer. Born on February 7, 1952, in Detroit, he far outlived his original prognosis of two months, a testament to his determination and fighting spirit.

After graduating from high school, Jim began his career with Kentucky Fried Chicken. In 1976, he took on the operation of the Oscoda KFC/Taco Bell and the Tawas KFC/Long John Silver’s, where he remained for decades. He was deeply committed to his community and to the well-being of his employees. He lived by a simple but heartfelt motto: if you are able to help someone, then don’t hesitate to do it.

Jim found joy in traveling, fishing, cheering for Detroit sports teams, and most of all, spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Zoey. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret Russo; his daughter, Michelle (Doug) Zsolcsak; his son, Michael (Abbey) Russo; his grandchildren, Addison, Hailey, Ayden, and Emily; his brother, John (Ann) Russo; his cousin Nina, whom he loved like a sister; and his brother-in-law and close friend, Felix.
