James Joseph Schrmack, known to all as Jim, was born on March 20, 1931, in Lansing, Ohio, and passed away on March 9, 2026, at Cascadia Care Center in Nampa, Idaho.
Raised in Mutton Hollow, Ohio, Jim was a happy, curious boy who delighted in a bit of mischief. He graduated from Bridgeport High School before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, where he served during the Korean War, piloting aircraft in support of the war effort. He later earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Jim began his professional career at MIT, contributing to guidance systems for the Apollo programs, and spent more than two decades at Raytheon Company in Sudbury and Northboro, Massachusetts, as a high-level manager on critical U.S. government projects. He lived in Leominster, Massachusetts, with his wife, Shirley, and their children, Charles and Kathleen.
Jim had a lifelong love of the outdoors, enjoying deer and pheasant hunting, fishing, and golf. He was an avid traveler, visiting places such as Alaska, Africa, and Israel. A passionate home cook, he took great pride in his original recipes and guarded them closely. Deeply connected to his community, he was an active member of Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church in Leominster, participating in many church activities and fundraising events. For twenty years, he devoted himself to the CTE programs at Leominster High School, serving as a mentor on the Devil Dawgs Robotics Team, where he formed lasting friendships with students and colleagues alike.
Above all, Jim will be remembered for his loving and kind nature, his willingness to help others, and his gift for making people laugh with his jokes and warm smile. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Rose (Batysta) Schrmack, his wife Shirley (Fuller) Schrmack, brother Buddy Schrmack and wife Mary, sisters Elizabeth (Pollastri), Margaret (Baxter), and Roseanne Schrmack, and daughter-in-law Patricia (Flanagan) Schrmack. He is survived by his son, Charles Schrmack, his daughter Kathleen Richardson and her husband Larry Richardson, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In his final years, Jim lived in Idaho with Kathleen and Larry before moving to Cascadia Care Center, where he passed peacefully. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
