James J. Smith III

1948 — 2026

Williamstown, PA

James Joseph Smith III, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at his home in Williamstown.

Born to James II and Evelynn Adams Smith, James graduated from Williams Valley High School in 1966 and earned a degree in education from Lock Haven University. He dedicated 38 years to teaching physical education, health, and driver’s training at Williams Valley, where he also coached wrestling and football. He proudly served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard for 33 years.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his infant children Kimberly, Jeremy, and Joseph, and by his granddaughter Alyssa Marie. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Verda; his sons, Eric (Alison) and James (Bethany); and his cherished grandchildren, Elijah, Madysen, and James. He also leaves behind his siblings, Patricia English (Joseph), Evelynn McConnell (Steve), and Donald Smith (Jennifer).

Following his wishes, James was laid to rest privately in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Williamstown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Williamstown EMS.
