James Ivan Millhouse MD

Dr. James I. Millhouse, 77, passed peacefully on March 12, 2026, at Pruitt Health Care of Marietta, Georgia, from complications of dementia. Born on November 28, 1948, in Flint, Michigan, to Iva Mae Russell Millhouse and Ernest Millhouse, he was preceded in death by both parents.

James grew up in Flint, where he attended public school before earning his Doctor of Psychology from Michigan State University. Soon after receiving his Ph.D., he moved to the Atlanta area and established a distinguished career in psychology. He maintained a private practice, worked with Atlanta Psychological Associates, and became a respected sports psychologist, collaborating with local sports directors, athletes, and high school coaches. He served as sports psychologist alongside Coach Sid Maxwell at Sequoyah High School in Canton and Lambert High School in Suwanee. In 1996, Dr. Millhouse contributed to the U.S. Olympic Committee in Atlanta and supported the U.S. Army Olympic Wrestling team.

A leading clinical sports psychologist for more than 25 years, Dr. Millhouse helped athletes of all levels reach their full potential. He shared his expertise with parents through his book, The Parents Manual of Sport Psychology: A Practical Guide to Achieving Athletic Success.

He leaves behind those whose lives he touched through his dedication to his profession and his quiet, steady presence.
