James I. Coker, age 95, of Hill City, Kansas, passed away on March 8, 2026. He was born on January 6, 1931, in Eakly, Oklahoma, to Eddie L. Coker and Verna Faye Butler. He grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from high school in Alfalfa.
James began his career in the oilfields, working with Halliburton and other companies, before joining the United States Postal Service in the early 1960s. He served faithfully with the Postal Service until his retirement. A devoted Mason, he was an active member of the Masonic Lodge throughout his life. He found great joy in hunting, shooting, collecting firearms, restoring classic cars, and spending time outdoors. He took quiet pride in his mechanical skills and cherished the moments spent with family and friends.
He is survived by his sons, Steve L. Coker and Mark A. Coker and his wife Deannette, his granddaughter Catherine Lace Coker, and numerous nieces and nephews who will hold him in fond memory.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie L. Coker and Verna Faye Butler, his wife Pauline Coker, his sisters Sue Malic, Betty Hammons, and Mary Crowdis, and his brothers Glenn Coker and Tom Coker.
