James Howard Thornton

James Howard Thornton, 92, of Crystal Springs, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, at Copiah County Medical Center.

Born on March 3, 1934, to Henry Franklin Thornton and Mildred Didlake Thornton, James spent many years at the G.E.M. plant manufacturing laboratory furniture. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and later with the Army National Guard. A lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Crystal Springs, he found great joy in the church’s seniors’ group, playing dominoes with friends, participating in mission trips, and serving with the Nail Benders ministry. An accomplished gardener, he loved the outdoors and had a remarkable ability to grow nearly anything.

He is survived by his sons, Jimmy Thornton (Krysti), Wayne Thornton (Pam), and Phillip Thornton (Tawanna); his daughter, Darlene Teasley (Ricky); his sister, Marie Farmer; twelve grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
