James Hopkins

James Hopkins

Tulsa, OK

James Vinton Hopkins, known to all as Jim, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, at the age of 76, surrounded by his family after a courageous three-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on August 15, 1949, in Pulaski, Virginia, to Edward (Pete) and Juanita Hopkins, Jim was a man of deep and active faith who lived each day with kindness, integrity, and a genuine love for others.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Janice; his daughter Megan Hubbard and her husband Mark, along with their children Jack, Hannah, and Caleb of Arvada, Colorado; his son Jacob Hopkins of Tulsa; his sister Jackie and her husband Rick of Roanoke, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jerry.

Jim met Janice when he was 23, and they married in January 1973. After living in Virginia, North Carolina, and Maryland during the early years of their marriage, they settled in Tulsa in 1986. A devoted and thoughtful father, Jim made his family his highest priority, organizing cherished annual vacations to Ocean Isle Beach where his humor, laid-back spirit, and constant encouragement brought joy to everyone. His faith in God was the foundation of his life. An active member of Redeemer Church for many years, he faithfully served on and led the Usher Team, walked alongside others in small group, and participated in Bible studies and the Emmaus community. He found great purpose in being an ambassador for the Lord through service to his church and community.

Jim had a lifelong gift for bringing people together. He cherished his many friendships, organized golf outings and group trips, planned concerts and dinners, and remained a loyal and steadfast friend. An avid Duke Blue Devils basketball fan, he looked forward each year to traveling with his college buddies to the ACC tournament in Myrtle Beach. He loved golf, travel, and time spent with friends. A hard worker from an early age, Jim began with a paper route at 11, graduated from Christopher Newport College in 1973, and built a successful career first in the hotel industry and then with Ferguson Enterprises, rising to President and General Manager of the Tulsa operation. In 1997 he joined SiteMaster, Inc. as one of its first employees, serving as Executive Vice President of Sales until his retirement in 2020, after which he continued to serve on the company’s Board of Directors.

Throughout his life and even in his final days, Jim remained true to the principles that defined him: giving glory to God, loving others well, embracing humor, and finding joy in every day. He often said, “God is good.” He leaves behind a lasting legacy of faithful service, generosity, and love for those around him.
