James A. Henry passed away on March 10, 2026. Born on July 25, 1936, in Lincoln County, Kentucky, he was the son of William Pollard and Lilliemae Carman Henry.
Jim served three years in the United States Marines and two years in the U.S. Army, including a tour in Germany during the construction of the Berlin Wall. Upon returning to civilian life, he worked as a Cincinnati firefighter before answering God’s call into ministry. He served as a Baptist missionary first in Ethiopia until the country fell to Communist rule, then for 22 years in England, followed by work among the Native American communities in New Mexico, before concluding his missionary service back in England.
In retirement, James was an active member of Victory Baptist Temple in Fairview, Kentucky, where he continued sharing his faith and leading others to Christ. Just two weeks before his death, he led one of his nurses to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Kay Mooney Henry; sons David Richard Henry and Daniel Dean Henry; daughter Susan Lynn Valenzuela; stepsons Jason Kia Nogle and James Charles Nogle; granddaughter Jennifer Leighanne Stoops; grandsons Alexander James Peterson and Daniel James Henry; great-granddaughters Serenity Skye Peterson and Selene Grace Peterson; great-grandson Khorbyn Evander Palmer; brother David Elmer Henry; and sister Charlotte Janelle Rice. James was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Marquita Daugherty, and a daughter, Gayle Ann Henry.
