James Harry “Jimmy” Dupont of Plaquemine, Louisiana, died on March 13, 2026, in Fairhope, Alabama, at the age of 81.

A native and longtime resident of Plaquemine, Jimmy graduated from St. John High School, where he served as class president and formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. He went on to attend LSU and earned his J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1969. He practiced law in Plaquemine with his brothers and nephew at Dupont and Dupont. For 38 years he served as Iberville Parish Assessor, and he held leadership roles in the Louisiana Assessors’ Association, serving as its president, and was a member of the International Association of Assessing Officers. He also served as a retired member of the Bank of Commerce Board of Directors.

In 1967, Jimmy married Mary Lynne Haydel, with whom he had two children, Chad and Angele. After her death, he married Terry Dugas in 1981, and together they raised Brian and welcomed stepdaughter Holly into their blended family. For 45 years, Jimmy and Terry shared a life filled with the love of their children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Terry Dugas Dupont; his children, James “Chad” Dupont, Angele Dupont Bourg, Brian Dupont (Kristin), and stepdaughter Holly Attaway; six grandchildren, Elizabeth and Olivia Bourg, and Brooke, Blaire, Blake, and Bryce Dupont; his brother, William Dupont (Mary); and his sister, Betty Jane Hebert. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emma and Joseph Dupont; his first wife, Mary Lynne Haydel; his brothers, Joseph and Frankie Dupont; and his sister, Emma Jo Williamson.
