Long Prairie, MN
James Harrington, age 88, of Long Prairie, passed away on March 10, 2026, at the Long Prairie Care Center.
Born on January 3, 1938, in Long Prairie, Jim was the son of Arden and Edna (Schroeder) Harrington. He graduated from Long Prairie High School and served seven years in the US National Guard out of Camp Ripley near Little Falls. In 1971, he married Alice Getz at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Swanville, and she joined him on his dairy farm in Long Prairie Township.
A lifelong dairy farmer who took great pride in his work, Jim cherished his time with Alice and their daughters. Family trips, chasing cows, and later traveling together created many cherished memories. After selling his last cattle in 2012, he and Alice enjoyed more travel and spent two winters near Bull Head City, Arizona. Following Alice’s death in 2014, Jim found joy in simple pleasures: cowboy movies, game shows, sports, and especially time spent with his family. Hunting season was his favorite time of year, when everyone gathered, laughed, and relaxed. He loved taking his grandchildren fishing at the Pillager bridge and created a lasting memory with them on one of his final outings, a trip to the casino. Jim was known for putting countless miles on his car, driving through the countryside, stopping at farm stands, grabbing a hamburger, and frequently visiting casinos. Humble, patient, and calm, with a stubborn streak and a dry sense of humor, he will be deeply missed.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (David) Becker of Long Prairie and Jessica (Jeff) Corle of Farwell; his siblings, Dianne Barrows of Glendale, California, and Arlys Dean of Reno, Nevada; and five grandchildren, Madison and Alexis Becker, and Riley, Owen, and Hudson Corle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice; his sisters, Marlene Fellbaum and Jeanette Lloyd; and his brothers-in-law, Duane Fellbaum, Jack Lloyd, Joe Barrows, and Darrel Dean.
