March 29, 1951— March 12, 2026
Borden, IN
James "Jim" Grayson Allgood, 74, of Borden, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, after courageously battling heart failure. Born on March 29, 1951, to Robert and June (Lindsey) Allgood in Lexington, Kentucky, Jim grew up as an only child, forming deep roots at Lyndon Baptist Church and in Louisville schools. He went on to attend Western Kentucky University, which launched a long career as a sales manager traveling the Midwest, where he built lasting relationships with distributors in the garage door and fireplace industries.
On October 11, 1986, Jim married the love of his life, Deborah. Together they created a lifetime of adventures. An avid enthusiast of cars, motorcycles, and boats, he cherished driving scenic backroads and navigating the Ohio River between Louisville and Cincinnati. Friends and family treasured the many memorable excursions shared aboard his favorite vehicles and vessels. Jim embraced life with excitement and passion. He formed quick, genuine connections with people and animals alike, spoiling his devoted dogs Hutch and Bailey. Having grown up without siblings, he fully embraced Debbie’s family as his own, lovingly referring to her parents as Mom and Dad and her siblings as his own. He took special joy in being “Uncle Jim” to generations of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, particularly mentoring his great-nephews during visits to the family cabin.
Jim’s warm, engaging spirit and heartfelt presence left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He balanced his love of fun and laughter—often seen wearing a rubber ducky hat while tending the duck pond in memory of his great-nephew Hank—with quiet moments of reflection. One could often find him mowing on his zero-turn tractor, tinkering in the barn, feeding birds and squirrels gourmet treats, or walking the creek in search of geodes for landscaping and painted stones. He found deep peace sitting outside the cabin, listening to the water while watching his dogs play, and he relied on his faith as a cornerstone of his life. His unique love language of thoughtful, quirky gift-giving created cherished memories for all who knew him.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his great-nephew Hank Sutherland. He is survived by his beloved wife Debbie, his treasured cousin Barbara and her family, Debbie’s mother and five siblings, sixteen nieces and nephews, a large group of great-nieces and nephews, many dear friends, and the congregation of First Baptist Church.
