James Gordon Hood

A Mass of Chrisian Burial celebrating the life of James Gordon Hood will be held on Thursday March 12, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 am until time of the service at 12 Noon. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Gordon, age 80, of Denham Springs, was born on May 17, 1945, and passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026, in the Butterfly Wing at Baton Rouge General Hospital surrounded by his children.

Gordon moved to Denham Springs and became a member of Immaculate Conception in 1983, but his heart never left his hometown of Cheneyville or his family roots in Cloutierville. He lived a life of civil service through his 30 years of work with the Louisiana Child Support Enforcement Program, where he served as state director for 18 years and federal director for 2 years. He was named the National Child Enforcement Support Director of the Year in 2000, and the Louisiana Civil Service League honored him with the Charles E. Dunbar, Jr., Career Service Award in 2003. In his private life, Gordon served as a Confirmation instructor, Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, and lector at Immaculate Conception.

Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, Leopold and Sadie Derbonne Hood; his brother, Steven Hood, his sisters, Lois Bryan, Louise Bonds, and Sue Normand, and his beloved granddaughter, Brittany Lynn Bergeron Scoggin.

Gordon was the devoted husband to his wife, Ola Belle “Teeny” Hood, for 60 years. Also left to cherish his memory are his sons Carl Wayne Hood and Patrick Gordon (Kristin) Hood, his daughter Dana Hood (Jason) Prouty, his grandchildren Clint Bergeron, Blake Bergeron, Kameron Hood Palmer, and Taylor Hood, 16 great-grandchildren, his brother Leopold Francis "Paul" Hood, and numerous nieces and nephews.

One of Gordon’s favorite sayings was “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Anyone who knew Gordon saw him live his life without fear of taking that first step and with a dedication to fulfilling his journey of service with unparalleled love and compassion.
