James Daniels ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Smith Funeral & Cremation Care on Mar. 16, 2026.James Elmore "Jack" Daniels, 86, of Westover, passed away on Sunday, March 15th, 2026 at Morgantown Healthcare Center.Born on May 4th, 1939 in Grant Town, WV, Jack was a son of the late James Daniels and the late Lillie Bell Jones Brown.Mr. Daniels is survived by his companion of 38 years, Shirley Cottingham; a son, Bryant Daniels; his step-children, Elizabeth Hollins, Darla Cureton and husband Ben, and Dale Cottingham; grandchildren Annastazia Ferrer and husband Jaime, Nevin Daniels, Calisha Daniels, Jessi Wamsley and husband Cameron, Takia Daniels, Imani Daniels, Bryson Daniels, Devan, Dominique, and Delaney Cureton, Dallas Cottingham and wife Nikki, Dakota Cottingham and wife Jessica, and Danielle Cottingham, several great-grandchildren, and a bonus grandchild; a sister, Rose Marie Smith; an aunt, Evelyn Tucker; and his former daughter-in-law, Traci Daniels.In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by a grandson, Isaac Daniels; a step-son, James King; his siblings Marva June Gailliard, Ardith Kay Daniels, Joyce Elaine Collins, Cecil Clyde Daniels, and Sherlina Lavern Perry.Jack was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, and member of both the VFW Post 548 and American Legion Post 174. He retired from both West Virginia University and from Grant Town Coal Mine. He was the owner and operator of the former Jade East Lounge in Sabraton and the former Fat Man's Pub in Osage. Jack enjoyed fishing and belonging to fishing clubs. He was an avid bowler on leagues at Suburban Lanes and bowled several perfect 300 games.Jack was a doting grandfather who enjoyed nothing more than spoiling his grandchildren. Each of them had carefully selected nicknames and he would do anything for them that he could.Friends may join the family to honor Jack's life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Westover, on Friday, March 20th form 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm and again on Saturday, March 21st from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm. Full Military Honors will be accorded to Jack beginning at 1:00 pm at funeral home by the United States Air Force Honor Guard and VFW Posts 9916 and 548, immediately followed by his Homegoing Service officiated by Pastor Paul Mitchell.
