James Sutton ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by DeArman Pickard Funeral Home - Stratford on Mar. 4, 2026.James Edward Sutton was born on September 16, 1948, in Silver City, NM, to Riley "Cowboy"Sutton and Louise Belt Sutton. He graduated from Roff High School in 1966.Following high school, James proudly served his country in the United States Army. He enteredservice in March 1969 and completed basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana, before continuingadvanced infantry training at Tigerland. He served 11 months and 19 days in Vietnam in 1970 aspart of the 199th Light Infantry and was proud to have earned his Combat Infantry Badge.After returning home, James attended East Central University, where he earned a Bachelor ofScience degree in 1980. He worked for the Oklahoma Highway Department while completinghis degree and later on as an accountant. In 1987, he began working for the IRS as a RevenueAgent.On April 11, 1980, he married Donna Roberts Sutton. Together, they built a beautiful life filledwith love, laughter, and cherished family memories.James had a deep love for Oklahoma Sooners football and Oklahoma Sooners softball. He wasa loyal Sooners fan and rarely missed a game. After retirement, he was truly happy andespecially looked forward to summers spent taking vacations with his beloved wife, children,and grandchildren. He treasured the memories they made together and was particularly excitedfor the special three-week vacations he shared with his granddaughter, Rylee, time that broughthim immense joy. Above all else, his greatest love was his family.James and Donna had a blended family including five children: Steve Sutton (Debbie), CissySutton, Greg Stewart, Brett Stewart, and Sari Lawless (Jason).Together they had ten grandchildren: Shane Sutton (Kortney), Shayla Vanhorn (Josh), ShyleePatton (Riley), Rylee Hayes, Jaci Moczygemba (Chandler), Jackson Lawless (Taylor), AbigailStewart, Elizabeth Edge (Aaron), Jesse Stewart, and Bryce Stewart.They had twelve great grandchildren: Aspen, Willa, Emmalyn, Adeline, Nova, Henley, Maddox,Sutton, Easton, Beau, Brooks, and Georgia.He is survived by his brother and sister, Evelyn Sutton and Bruce Sutton.He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Angela Hyatt; his son, Brett Stewart; hisin-laws, Ernie and Leola Roberts; brother-in-law: Roland Fowler; his sisters-in-law, BobbieFowler and Sharon Sutton.James will be remembered for his service, his loyalty, and the steady love he gave to thosearound him. His legacy lives on through the generations of family who were his greatest prideA celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at DeArman-Pickard Funeral Home in Stratford, OklahomaInterment will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Fort Sill National Cemetery.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
