James Edward Oglesby II

March 13, 1976 March 11, 2026

Gibson, GA

James Edward Oglesby II, affectionately known as Rusty, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on March 11, 2026, at Wellstar MCG Hospital, just two days before his 50th birthday. Born on March 13, 1976, Rusty lived a life marked by resilience and joy. He resided in several Georgia towns including Swainsboro, Stapleton, Matthews, and Thomson before settling in the Five-Points area of Gibson. He attended special needs classes at Gibson Consolidated School and graduated from the Elgin School for the Handicapped in South Carolina.

At the age of 20, Rusty moved in with his cousin Carl, who became a central figure in his life. Eleven years ago, when Carl began his long-haul trucking career, Rusty joined him as his devoted sidekick, riding shotgun across the United States. Together they traveled through every state except Alaska and Hawaii, forging a deep bond through countless adventures on the road.

Rusty was known for his warmth, kindness, and impeccable manners. He treated everyone with genuine respect, never met a stranger, and cherished his family deeply. He loved listening to Hank Williams Jr. and Johnny Paycheck on his walkman and remained a devoted child of God, faithfully attending Mt. Moriah Church in Matthews.

He is survived by his mother and bonus father, Martha Cash Oglesby Guy and Cicero Guy; his father, James Edward Oglesby; his sisters, Beverly Guy, Rhonda Braswell-Patterson (Jason), Cicerenna Errek (Tim), Sandy Metroz, and Paige Kitchens (Aaron); his cousin and caregiver, Carl Newsome; and his special aunt and uncle, Terry and Jimmy Lawrence, along with other extended family and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts. Those who knew Rusty will always remember his unfailing kindness, his big heart, and the quiet joy he brought into their lives.
