James Mayfield ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert on Mar. 2, 2026.James Edward "Eddie" Mayfield II, son of James Edward Mayfield and the late Linda Marie (Sparks) Schmitz, was born on May 20, 1973, in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.Eddie spent most of his childhood in Missouri, but due to his step-dad's military service, he lived in Germany for six years. After returning to Waynesville, he graduated from Waynesville High School and continued his education in automotive mechanics. Eddie achieved the distinction of being the youngest master mechanic in the state of Missouri throughout the 1990's.Eddie was passionate about working on automobiles. Although some considered him a "workaholic," he truly enjoyed his work and often spent his free time fixing cars. In addition to his love of cars, he appreciated spending time outdoors and had an interest in collecting coins.Eddie passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Lebanon North Nursing & Rehab in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of 52. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.In addition to his mother, Eddie was preceded in death by his aunt: Mitzi Sparks. He leaves behind his father, James Mayfield of Waynesville, MO; his daughter, Ashley Crossland (Butch) of Waynesville, MO; four grandchildren: Braelynn, Novalee, Josephine, and Everett; the love of his life, Janet Myers of Lebanon, MO; three sisters: Dawn Merrill (Kenneth) of St. Louis, MO, Lilly Massie of Dixon, MO, and HollieShaughnessy (Michael) of Dixon, MO; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.Even though Eddie is no longer with us, his spirit will continue to live on in our hearts forever.Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2026, in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Eddie Mayfield and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
