James Edward Ely

James Edward Ely, 85, of Highgate, passed away at his home on March 9, 2026. Born on October 31, 1940, in St. Johnsbury to Luther Ely and Marion Oliver, James lived a life rooted in faith, simple joys, and quiet devotion to those he loved.

He cherished his relationship with the Lord, the companionship of his two dogs named Duke, and the everyday pleasures of caring for others, cooking, eating, and writing. James shared a deep and affectionate bond with his wife of 16 years, Joyce C. Ely, and with her children, who held him in great love and esteem. He is also survived by his siblings and his own children.

He was preceded in death by his parents and both of his beloved dogs, Duke.
