James E. Horne Jr. of Scottsville, New York, passed away suddenly on March 10, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on November 21, 1949, in Yonkers, New York, he was the son of the late James Horne Sr. and Elizabeth Horne.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gail (Knitter) Horne; his daughters, Amy Thrush and Katie (Robert) Montgomery; his grandchildren, Louden and Whitney Thrush, and James and Mya Montgomery; and his granddog, Coco. He is also survived by his siblings, William (Maria) Horne, Coleen (Richard) Campbell, Eileen Horne, and Thomas (Danielle) Horne; his brother-in-law, Chris (Mary) Biear; and his brothers-in-law, Peter (Joanne) Knitter, Patrick (Barb) Knitter, Thomas (Janice) Knitter, and David (Fran) Knitter. He was preceded in death by his in-laws, Elmer and Grace Knitter. James shared close friendships with Ed and Adelina Davin, John Kaimimoku and family, and many other loving relatives and friends.
James proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. A devoted husband, he was a wonderful father who loved his family with his whole heart and an affectionate grandfather whose grandchildren meant the world to him. Known as “Papa” to his grandchildren, he was present, proud, and full of love. He was a great big brother and a loyal friend whose warm presence made those around him feel welcomed, supported, and cared for. James was the kind of man others could always count on, and his steady, generous spirit enriched the lives of everyone who knew him.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved by his family, who remain grateful for the lessons, memories, and laughter he gave them.
