James E. Dubay

1946 — 2026

Bay City, MI

James “Jim” E. Dubay of Bay City, Michigan, was born on June 8, 1946, and passed away on March 10, 2026, at Symphony Tri-Cities with his family by his side. Born to Ervin and Helen (Wrona) Dubay, Jim graduated from Bay City Central High School and began a distinguished career with the Bay County Sheriff’s Department, where he served faithfully for 33 years before retiring.

A lifelong Michigan outdoorsman, Jim found his greatest joy in time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved sharing police stories that made the children laugh, playing cards, and staying active. He was never one to sit still for long. His true passion was deer hunting, where he came alive each season, though he also enjoyed fishing, cutting wood with his chainsaw, and relaxing with a good old Popski.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his cherished daughter Michelle Loper, and his sisters Patricia (Jerry) Lesniak and Janet (Mike) Cabala. He is survived by his children, Christopher Dubay, Jace Dubay and partner Christine, Joelle (Eric) Sporman, Jamie Dubay, and son-in-law Dirk Loper; his beloved grandchildren, Sarah Dubay, Stephen Dubay, Barbara Moore, Bradyn Lee, Madisyn Lee, Kyle Sporman, Benjamin Sporman, Hailey Sporman, Eathan Davis, Elisa Dubay, Laekin Dubay, Adam Loper, and Emily Loper; and eight great-grandchildren.
