James E. Carlson

James E. Carlson

February 24, 1934 March 9, 2026

Califon, NJ

James E. Carlson, age 92, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, at Hunterdon Medical Center. Born in Ridgway, Pennsylvania, to the late John and Harriette Carlson, Jim was raised in his hometown and, after graduating from high school, proudly enlisted in the United States Army. He served overseas during the Korean War, an experience that remained a source of great pride for him throughout his life.

Upon returning home, Jim married the love of his life, Joyce Carlson. The couple shared 59 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2025. They made their home in Califon, New Jersey, where they put down deep roots and became beloved members of the community for the rest of their lives. Jim worked for many years as a bus driver for NJ Transit, taking pride in his work and the people he met each day. Earlier in his career, he had worked with friends in the newspaper printing business.

Jim had a deep appreciation for the small-town community he called home. An avid bicyclist, he enjoyed spending time outdoors and staying active. He was also a proud member of the Netcong VFW, maintaining a lifelong connection with fellow veterans. Those who knew him will remember his kindness, generosity, and quiet devotion to family, friends, and neighbors.

He is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, close friends, and neighbors who will cherish his memory. In addition to his beloved wife, Joyce, and his parents, he was predeceased by several family members.
