James Dwight Walker

James Dwight Walker, 83, of Grove Hill, passed away on March 13, 2026, at Mobile Infirmary surrounded by his family. Born on April 30, 1942, to David McLean and Dorothy Deas Walker, Dwight was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church. To know him was to love him.

A true outdoorsman, Dwight found deep joy in gardening and generously sharing his crops with family and friends. He spent many years working in the timber industry and, in his spare time, loved to hunt and fish. Above all, he cherished time with his family and took genuine pleasure in visiting and talking with everyone he met, always ready with a story to tell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Kathleen “Kat” Garrick, and his brother Douglas Walker.

Dwight is survived by his son, Eric (Fleaka) Walker; daughters, Dina (Wayne) Phillips and Paige (Jason) Ammons; grandchildren, Matt Walker, Adam Walker, Storm (Jessica) Cabaniss, Cody (Olivia) Cabaniss, Jaya Ammons, Zach Ammons, and Dalton Ammons; six step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Natalie Cabaniss, Gracie Cabaniss, and John Archer Cabaniss; eight step great-grandchildren; brother, Stan Walker; sister, Virginia Deas; special friend, Margie Tyler; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
