James Duncan "Jimmy" Moser Jr.

1938 — 2026

Burlington, NC

James Duncan Moser, Jr., known to all as Jimmy, died on March 10, 2026, his 88th birthday, in Burlington, North Carolina. He was the devoted husband of 65 years to Mary Brenda Wilson Moser. Jimmy was the son of the late James Duncan Moser and Nettie Mae Lockamy Moser.

A graduate of E.M. Holt School, Jimmy attended Pfeiffer College before earning his B.A. in Accounting from Elon College in 1961. He began his career with a firm in Greensboro and went on to become a CPA and senior partner at what is now Gilliam Bell Moser LLP in Burlington. He served in the North Carolina Air National Guard and gave many years of leadership to local organizations, including Community Federal Savings & Loan, Capital Bank, the Alamance Community College Foundation, the Elon College Board of Visitors, and the Alamance Country Club. A 54-year member of the Alamance Civitan Club, he was also active in the Alamance Breakfast Rotary Club.

Jimmy found great pleasure in golf and tennis, regular gatherings with “The Luncheon Club” and “The Tennis Group,” and working outdoors on his tractor or lawn mower. He took quiet pride in his professional appearance during the workday but was equally content in dungarees after hours. Above all, he cherished time with his family, especially the memories created together at Hyco Lake, and he rarely missed an athletic event or performance involving his children or grandchildren.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Brenda; his son, James Bradley Moser (Melinda); his daughter, Julie Moser Thomas; ten grandchildren, Wilson Douglas Hinson (Mattie), Emily H. Reavis (Dylan), James Griffin Hinson, Abby M. Overman (Travis), Kaley M. Evans (Bill), Ellis Moser (Mollie), Hannah Thomas, Ellen T. Sloop (Riley), Mary Grace Thomas, and Adelia Thomas; and nine great-grandchildren, Finley, Salem, Wade, Hadley, Madelyn, Allie, William, Olivia, and Lane. He is also survived by his brother, Sammy Moser (Pat), and many beloved extended family members. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jami Lewellyn Moser Hinson, and his parents.
