Preserve forever →James Dean Shoults
Mountain View, MO
James Dean Shoults, son of Elmer and Audrey (Briggs) Shoults, was born on October 14, 1949, in Hartshorn, Missouri, and passed away on March 13, 2026, in Mountain View, Missouri, at the age of 76.
He married Paulette Shoults on August 24, 1979, and together they had one daughter, Paula. James grew up in the Hartshorn and Summersville areas of Missouri, where he spent many years working for Royal Oak Charcoal. Baptized on July 7, 1957, at Valley Center Baptist Church, he later found his deepest connection to faith through quiet Bible study at home with his wife. He rededicated his life to the Lord on February 26, 2026.
James loved the outdoors and was often found hunting or working with his hands. He took special joy in building whatever his grandchildren dreamed up, yet nothing compared to the role he cherished most: being “Grandad.” Those closest to him will always remember his quick wit and the charismatic grin that could brighten any moment.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Paulette; and his siblings, Van, Denver, Donald, Marcella, Charley, and Frankie. James is survived by his daughter, Paula Odom of Austin, Texas; his granddaughter, Emiley Maycock and husband Shaune of San Marcos, Texas; his grandson, Ethan Odom of Driftwood, Texas; his four great-grandchildren, Macie, Genevieve, Charlotte, and Abigail of San Marcos, Texas; and his siblings, David Shoults and wife Rhonda of Hartshorn, Missouri, Acleda Menz of Raymondville, Missouri, and Darlene Pethrus and husband Pierre of California, along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, and love that will be forever treasured by all who knew him.
