James Daniel Gray, 72, of Amory, passed away at his residence on Sunday, March 8, 2026 after a brief illness. Born on March 23, 1953 in Aberdeen to the late Leander and Ophelia Cook Gray, he attended Hamilton School and married Beverly Ann Livingston on August 29, 1975. The couple shared more than fifty years of marriage filled with cherished memories.
James worked at Tri State Lumber Mill in Fulton. A devoted and faithful Christian, he was a longtime member of Ignite Revival Center in Amory. Gifted with a beautiful voice, he found deep joy in sharing the love of Christ through song at churches, nursing homes, and family gatherings. Above all, family meant everything to James, and he adored his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of over fifty years, Beverly Gray of Amory; daughter Rachel Gray of Amory; sons Daniel Gray (Melissa) of Smithville, Jason Gray (Lacey) of Amory, and Isaiah Gray (Amanda) of Hatley; sister Barbara Dill (Ricky) of Mantachie; brothers Stewart Gray (Becky) of Splunge Community and Donnie Gray of Bigbee; grandchildren Daniel Gray (Kelsey), Taylor Gray, Emily Keller (Corey), Alyssa Gray, Eli Gray, Caleb Gray, Angel, Katie Maxey (Dewayne), Aaron Morris (Britney), Makayla Pearson (Daniel), and Joycelynn Gray; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents and by his sisters Brenda and Misty Gray and brother Stanley Gray.
