James D. Meece

James D. Meece, 81, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on March 10, 2026. Born in Pontiac, Illinois, to Delno and Lura (Stephens) Meece, he proudly served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967. In October of that same year, he married Sandra Marx, and together they built a life centered on decades of devotion and family.

James retired after 35 years as an accountant for Caterpillar. He held a deep love for sports, especially cheering for the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. He was actively involved in his children’s activities, often serving as their coach, and later took great joy in attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. An avid runner, he qualified for the Boston Marathon, and he also found pleasure in playing and watching golf. Throughout his life, he traveled extensively.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra; his daughter, Danielle Casey (Corey); his grandchildren, Riley Casey, Keagan Meece, and Kennedy Meece; his daughter-in-law, Trisha Meece; his sister, Gretta Giacometti; his sister-in-law, Bev Meece; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Ryan Meece; his parents; and his siblings, Jack S. Meece, Janet (Meece) Joyce, Gayle (Meece) Clapp, and Lynell (Meece) McGinnis.
