August 6, 1978— March 7, 2026
Plymouth, MA
James J. “Jimmy” Cushing, age 47, of Plymouth, passed away suddenly on March 7, 2026, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth. He was the beloved husband and soulmate of Megan (Flora) Cushing and the son of Edward Cushing of Plymouth and the late Mary (Bauer) Cushing.
Born in Weymouth on August 6, 1978, Jimmy graduated from Plymouth South High School, where he studied plumbing. He earned his CDL Class B license at a young age and built a career working with septic systems for Wind River Environmental. A kind, compassionate, and generous man, he was deeply devoted to his wife and daughters. He shared a bond with Megan, Brynn, and Bria unlike any other, living with his father—his best friend and rock—right beside them. In his final year especially, Jimmy focused on cherishing every moment with his girls and his dad, finding laughter and comfort in one another. He could finish their sentences, join in their silly songs, and protect them with a fierce and tender love that they knew would continue even after he was gone.
Jimmy treasured the lifelong friends he had known since childhood and found simple joy in drives in his white Dodge Durango, running errands, playing horseshoes and cornhole, beach days, and grilling for his family. An early riser who loved summertime, he was often the first one up, packing the car for the beach and patiently waiting while his girls created their signature whirlwind of bathing suits and flip-flops. A devoted sports fan, he especially loved the Boston Bruins and the New England Patriots. He also had a well-known sweet tooth, particularly for ice cream and candy bars such as Snickers, PayDay, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
He leaves behind his wife Megan, his father Edward, and his two daughters, Brynn and Bria, the light in his beautiful blue eyes. He is also survived by his sister Michele Gagnon and her husband Allan of Plymouth; his brother Eddie Cushing and his wife Lucy of Bradenton; his sister-in-law Jill Cushing Olah of Bradenton; his brother-in-law John Bastoni of Wareham; his mother-in-law Beverly Flora; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members, including his goddaughter Molly Bastoni, with whom he shared a very special bond. Jimmy was a proud uncle and great-uncle who loved and cared for his family as if each child were his own.
