Passed March 12, 2026
Manchester, TN
James S. Conant, age 67 formerly from Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, surrounded by his wife and children at his home in Manchester, TN. Born on July 31, 1958, in Grand Rapids, MI, James was a dear friend to many. He cherished his lifelong friendships and was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and nephew. He never took a day for granted nor would complain when simple things were not easy to do.After recovering from a tragic accident leaving him partially paralyzed at the age of 26, he moved down to the state of Texas. There he would eventually meet the love of his life, Esther, and they married in July of 2014.In 2017, James and Esther moved to Tennessee to be near family and surrounded by their kids and grandkids. Being a grandpa was one of James's greatest joys. He was known for his playful spirit and enjoyed sneaking ice cream to his youngest grandson when his mother was not looking. James was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ralph (2018) and Gail (2026) Conant. He is survived by his devoted wife, Esther, his beloved children Juan Tovar, Uriel Romero, Lorena Tovar, Liliana Tovar, and Maria Guadalupe Ramirez, his grandchildren Braden Tovar, Destiny Tovar, Dilan Romero, Leia Guadalupe Romero, Quetzali Gomez, Diego Moran, Jose Ruiz, and Rafael, his sister Janice (James) Schmitt and brothers John Conant and Joseph (Joan) Conant, his dear aunt Jeanne Howarth, and many nieces, nephews and loved ones.We rejoice that James is made new again in Heaven and no longer living with the pain of his earthly body. A memorial service will be held in Manchester, TN in the coming weeks.
