James "Jim" Andrew Hurley

November 6, 1955 March 12, 2026

Eldersburg, MD

James Andrew “Jim” Hurley, 70, of Eldersburg, Maryland, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, in the early morning hours. Surrounded by family who sat with him speaking, singing, and praying, he went to be with the Lord.

Born on November 6, 1955, in the Boston, Massachusetts area, Jim was the son of John Paul Hurley and Patricia Anne Hurley née O’Neill. He graduated from South Carroll High School in 1973 and briefly studied at Salisbury State College before entering the workforce to support his young family.

Throughout his career, Jim worked with computer-aided design and manufacturing systems in the garment industry, first as an operator and later as a salesman who brought technical expertise and practical experience to his clients. He also worked in roofing sales and provided support for seniors and people with disabilities. Later in life, he earned a degree in biblical studies and ministry from Charis Bible College in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Jim ministered in churches across Colorado, California, Georgia, and Maryland, offering messages, singing in choirs, presiding at weddings and funerals, serving in leadership roles, and mentoring young people. In recent years he served as a deacon at Freedom Church and helped launch Cedar House Church, both in Westminster, Maryland.

Jim married Linda Brooke Hurley née Gibbons on September 21, 2021, in Westminster, Maryland. They shared four and a half years of marriage rooted in love, faith, and companionship. Known for his loving, peaceful, and passionate nature, Jim possessed a wonderful sense of humor that brought joy to others. His deep passions for writing and music found expression in many creative works, especially the pieces he called “Present Day Psalms.” Those who knew him will remember his thoughtful spirit, meaningful conversations, and the calm presence he carried with him. He was a devoted servant of Christ with a pastor’s heart.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; daughters Colleen Christina Hurley and Jaime Lyn Turgyan; son Phillip Ryan Hurley, S.J.; stepdaughters Ilyene Brooke Reid and Rebecca Lynn Durana; stepgrandchildren Avery, Grant, and Willa Reid, and Lexington Durana; brothers Michael, John, Thomas, Christopher, and Peter Hurley; and many extended family members and friends. He also leaves behind the joyful anticipation of welcoming his first grandchild in May of 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Paul Hurley and Patricia O’Neill Hurley.
