James Allen Killion

July 3, 1966 February 19, 2026

Belton, TX

James Allen Killion, 59, of Belton, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on February 19, 2026. First and foremost, James was a Christian and a man of God. His life was rooted in his faith, which served as the compass for how he treated others and the legacy of kindness, hard work, and adventure he built.

Born on July 3, 1966, to Shirley Ray and Diane (Jamison) Killion, James was a man of the outdoors and a true adventurer at heart. In his early years, he traveled an incredible 47 states, always seeking the next horizon, a journey that even took him into the clouds for a skydiving jump. He was most in his element when he was on the move or under the open sky. Whether he was water skiing on the lake, floating the Guadalupe River, or sitting around a campfire with a plate of good BBQ, James found peace in God's creation. He was an avid fisherman who lived by the philosophy that a day spent by the water was always a day worth smiling about.

James also had a profound soft spot for animals, specifically dogs. Everyone who knew James knew of his bond with Scrappy, his beloved Chiweenie dog, who went everywhere with him. When Scrappy passed away a couple of years ago, it was clear that James felt lost without his constant companion; their reunion in heaven is surely a joyful one.

For the last 15 years, James served as the Senior Maintenance Technician for the City of Belton Public Works Department. He took immense pride in his work, from answering middle-of-the-night emergency calls to ensuring the town was ready for its annual 4th of July parades. He didn't just work for Belton; he cared for it, and his presence will be deeply missed by his colleagues and the many residents who benefited from his dedication.

Known for his sense of humor and "sweet" disposition, which his family jokes was fueled by his impressive ability to polish off a pack of Chips Ahoy and a tub of Blue Bell ice cream, James was a man who put everyone’s needs before his own. Reflecting his Christian values, he was the kind of person who would give a stranger his last dollar and always went out of his way to make sure everyone had a reason to smile. To say he was a "good man" barely scratches the surface; he was a selfless protector of those he loved.

James was preceded in death by his father, Shirley Ray Killion, and his nephew, Kirby Ray Killion Jr.

He is survived by his mother, Diane Killion; his sister, Jada Hoyal and her husband Dale, their children Savannah Mouton and her husband Dylan and Killian Hoyal and his wife Julia; his brother, Kirby Killion Sr. and his wife Kimberly, and their children Lisa Carter and her husband Jason, Megan Killion, and James N. Killion and his wife Samantha; and his brother, Jason Killion and his wife Leslie, and their children Stephanie Dencklau and her husband Joseph, Ashley Baylion and her wife Elizabeth, and Kyle Killion.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, beginning at 12:00 PM at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Danny Brey officiating the service.

James’s life touched more people than he likely ever realized. While his family and friends feel the weight of his absence, they choose not to dwell in sadness, but rather to be happy and excited for the time they shared. They are profoundly grateful for every memory made and every laugh shared with a man who made the world a brighter place.
