A celebration of life gathering will be held from 2:30-4:30, Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at The Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City. A prayer service will be held at 3 PM. Private burial will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of the Animal Center, St. Mary Catholic Church or Meals on Wheels.James was born on April 22, 1941, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of James and Gladys (Dewey) Wells. He graduated from City High School in 1959. James served as a Staff Sgt. In the Airforce from 1961-65. James was united in marriage to Ann Stahle on November 13, 1965, in Iowa City. He worked for the City of Iowa City Pollution Control Department for over 30 years. James enjoyed local history and telling stories with friends and family. He enjoyed watching airplanes and birds and learning anything about them.James is survived by his wife, Ann; two daughters Stacy (Jim) Cather of Oswego, IL, and Sara (Tom) Whitcomb of Latham NY; three grandchildren, Madelyn (Josiah) Kwong, Samantha Davies and Lily Whitcomb; two step-grandsons, Nick Whitcomb, and Greg (Chayse) Cather; two sisters, Mary (Barbara Reed) Wells of Mesa, AZ and Carolyn Mather of Lone Tree.James was preceded in death by his parents.Read The Full Obituary
