Hoskins, 79, of Charlottesville, Virginia died on Monday, March 2, 2026.Born on December 7, 1946, at Hamilton Air Force Base, California, he was born the son of Blaine and Betty Hoskins.He was proceeded in death by his parents, grandparents and in-laws.Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife of fifty-six years, Bobbie. Also surviving is a sister, Mary (Jim) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and four brothers; Terry of Iowa City, Iowa, Craig of Fort Worth, Texas, Tom (LouAnn) of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Bill (Karen) of West Bend, Iowa. He was loved by many nieces and nephews.Jim grew up on a farm in West Bend, Iowa with his parents and siblings. Here, he learned the values of hard work, always doing your best, teamwork, respect, and a strong faith in God. Jim also took pride in his Irish Heritage. The family loved playing games and cards together. You could always hear lots of laughter and fun in their home. While in high school, Jim received many academic and athletic awards.A committed scholar, Jim earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1969. He continued his studies at UCLA, receiving a Master of Arts Economics in 1970, with a focus on econometrics and mathematical economics. He then completed a Ph.D. in Economics at Iowa State University in 1981. A distinguished professional whose career spanned military service, academic research, corporate leadership and strategic consulting, Jim served in the United States Air Force for two decades from 1969-1989, retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel.Beyond his military service, Jim played a role in national research initiatives. In the private sector, he became a leader in value-based research and strategic consulting. He held numerous positions during his time with Wirthlin WorldWide (1984-2004), Harris Interactive (2004-2009), and Heart+Mind Strategies from 2009 until his death. His contributions to the fields of research and marketing were widely recognized.Throughout his career, Jim combined rigorous analytical thinking with a deep interest in human values, leaving a legacy in military policy economic research and strategic communication.Jim wanted to be remembered, not as a colleague or boss, but as a friend.A funeral mass will be held for Jim on Wednesday, March 11, at 10:00 am at Holy Comforter Catholic Church.
