Morton, 89, of Hazel, KY, passed away on Tuesday, 10 March 2026 at Murray Calloway County Hospital.Jackie was born 9 February 1937 to the late Marion and Eva Powell in Augusta, GA. She attended high school at the Academy of Richmond County where she graduated with high honors. As an avid and lifelong Georgia Bulldogs fan, she proudly graduated from the University of Georgia in 1959 with a BS degree in English Education, and was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi and Sigma Alpha Iota sororities. Go Dawgs!!She was married to Loren Hatfield, Jr. from 1959-1969, and had three children. She taught elementary and junior high school while residing in Georgia. In 1969, she began her 29 year career in civil service starting at Fort Gordon, GA, working as an instructor specialist for the Southeastern Signal School for the Department of the Army. Due to a reduction in force in 1970, she moved with her three children to Anchorage, Alaska, where she worked as an Education Services Specialist at Fort Richardson. In 1973 she met and married CW2 Wes Morton, and they added another son to their combined families. The military whisked them away to an overseas assignment in Germany, allowing them to travel throughout Europe with their children on exciting adventures. Her job afforded her to travel and experience many cultures throughout the US, Europe, and Korea. She retired from a fulfilling and exemplary civil service career in 1998 From Fort Wainwright, AK.Jackie had a strong faith in God and her kind heart reflected that belief. She never forgot a birthday, always greeted a new acquaintance with a warm welcome, and made friendships that lasted a lifetime. She was a gifted pianist and taught lessons to children, played for her church, weddings, her beloved Eastern Star, and never turned down a request to play and share her passion for music.Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wes Morton, and daughter Lynne Reese.Those left to cherish her memory include daughters Claire Murphy (Bob), Lori Ballance-Dunn (Larry Fifer), Sherri Harvey-Quinn (Mike); sons Ren Hatfield (Vanessa), Wes Morton Jr. (Tiffany), Alan Morton (Kimberly), and sister Jane Edmunds (Andy). She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends throughout the country, all of whom she loved dearly.A service for family honoring her life will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Augusta, Georgia on 17 April 2026 at 2 PM, officiated by Rev. Thurmon Norville.In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to Raymond's Ministries at St. James Global Methodist Church, 439 Greene St., Augusta, GA 30901, or to your favorite charity.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
