Jacob Winters

Jacob Eli Winters, aged 69, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on February 14, 2026. Born in Dover, New Jersey, he was the son of William Winters and Margaret (Schumann) Winters. He earned an associate degree in Civil Engineering and went on to build a life centered on family, learning, and intellectual pursuit.

A dedicated chess player, Jacob competed in official USCF tournaments, played online, and regularly hosted friends for games at his home. He introduced the game to his son at an early age, and that shared passion remained a meaningful bond between them.

Jacob was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Rosemarie and Juanita Winters, and his wife Marsha (Plantz) Winters. He is survived by his son, Lance Winters, from his marriage to his former wife Olga (Gribanoff), as well as his brothers Paul and Otto and his sister Genevieve Winters.
